Inspiring Ted Talk: Peace

I remember first coming across the Facebook Page that this talk is about, but I didn’t know the context, how it got started, or how it evolved. The video went fast–I didn’t want it to end. Watch this. It’ll make your day better:

Lilian is the author of Web of Angels, a novel about a mom with DID (multiple personalities). She's also the author of the historical novels, The River Midnight and The Singing Fire, about secrets, friendship and motherhood in 19th century Poland and London.

  1. You do understand that social media offerings such as facebook and twitter are controlled by multinational corporations, right? I think it would be better for citizens to create their own social media.

    1. What struck me most about the Ted talk was how ordinary people were able to reach out to each other in positive and peaceful ways across the biggest ideological divides in the Middle-East. But, yes, I agree with you that social media that was open source would be preferable if it existed. Do you know of any?

  2. Thanks for sharing this video, Lilian. I really enjoyed it. I also wondered what Ronny and his friends would say in response to the current crisis in Gaza. It’s one thing to say “Israel loves Iran” but to say “Israel loves the Palestinians”? I know there’s no easy solution to this conflict and of course there’s wrong on both sides. But it was inspiring to see the way that one graphic designer and his friends are changing the discourse around Israel and Iran.
