Congratulations Tessa Bonhomme and David Pelletier

Picture this: tiny figure skater and hulking hockey pro paired up to dance music on ice. That is Battle of the Blades, a Canadian reality tv show with the prize money going to charity.

Only this season there was another twist. In one of the pairs, the hockey player came from the gold winning Canadian Olympic women’s team, Tessa Bonhomme, who now plays for the Toronto Furies: strong, blonde, and good humoured about all the bruises that come from being tossed around with no padding.

The male of the pair, David Pelletier won the gold medal with his partner Jamie Salé for pairs at the Olympics in Salt Lake City. (That in itself is an unusual story, the gold medal awarded after the fact.)

  1. We have a similar programme in the UK – Dancing on Ice. I’ve never seen it, but maybe I should catch it next time it’s on!
