Taken by Eadweard Muybridge in 1887

Thus he proved that when horses run there is an instant when all 4 hooves are in the air.

There is a grimmer side to the photographer. Discovering that his baby was in fact the son of another man, he shot his wife’s lover. The jury acquitted him on grounds of temporary insanity.
