*Tar Sands Game

The Alberta tar sands, for my friends outside of Canada, are the dirtiest, most destructive source of oil. It produces a stinky sickening gas. It uses up a lot of water and turns it into sludge.

Approximately two tons of oil sands are needed to produce one barrel of oil (roughly 1/8 of a ton)….Making liquid fuels from tar sands requires huge amounts of energy for steam injection and refining. This process generates two to four times the amount of greenhouse gases per barrel of final product as the production of conventional oil.

But now there’s something we can all do about this pandering to oil barons.

  1. Lol! Not at the Alberta Sands, you understand, but the game was funny.

    1. Litlove, I have to say that though I don’t usually go for video games, I liked this one!

  2. The Athabaskan tar sands are an abomination – I flew over them once. The game was fun though… I do wish our elected leaders would find the courage to nuke the tar sands projects.

  3. I first heard of this last year – and I could hardly believe I’d never heard of it before.

    1. Rachel, I think it’s only come into the news in the last few years because as oil prices have gone up, the tar sands have become a reality. Before, it was too expensive to get oil out that way.

  4. Lilian, now they want to pipe the output from the tar sands through the Great Bear Rainforest to the British Columbia coast where it will be loaded on supertankers and transported south. This scares me – it really scares me. There is sure to be widespread damage to the priceless old growth forest, and there are bound to be oil spills in coastal waters.

    1. Cate that is scary. I wish there was someone in the leadership of the other parties who could win.
